Concerted efforts by the committee to increase numbers at the event were rewarded with over 100 golfers present on the day including the chairman of West Midlands region, Phil Pemble, and teams from Bristol & Bath and Somerset & Dorset. Such commitment to the cause should have been rewarded with the wall-to-wall sunshine that bathed the Royal Cornwall show only the week before. Unfortunately, the conditions had anyone called Noah reaching for hammer and nails as for the first two hours the rain was unrelenting.
Gradually, the monsoon eased off but the scores reflected the huge advantage enjoyed by those who teed off later in the day. The eventual winners were a team from West Cornwall who scored an impressive total of 92 and now go forward to represent the Duchy in the next round. Dinner was served in a marquee kindly provided without charge by owners Graham and Clare Bond with entertainment from Martin Toal and his fiddler! Almost £5,000 was raised by the end of the night, a significant proportion of which was due to the persuasive efforts of Mike Eland at the 19th tee. Huge thanks are due to all those who took part and who helped on the day.
