Former England and British Lions star Nigel Redman was the guest of honour at a Stratford Primary School on June 8, a day which saw the opening of a new sensory garden at the site. The £25,000 creation was funded by the Warwickshire region of Wooden Spoon and will help staff and children at Welcombe Hills School to develop sensory perception.
Welcombe Hills is a co- educational community special school with 138 pupils aged 2- 9 with a broad range of moderate to severe learning difficulties and the new equipment is already proving a hit with the children. Mr Redman's presence was also arranged through Wooden Spoon in order to help make the day even more memorable, which he managed by officially open the garden and joining the school choir in singing two songs from the hit musical Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat.
Warwickshire Wooden Spoon Chairman Jai Purewal added: "Fortunately for him Nigel's rugby ability was much better than his singing - but the day was great success. We are very proud of the sensory garden and hope that the staff and pupils at Welcombe Hills School enjoy using it for years to come. When people support Wooden Spoon they do so safe in the knowledge that every penny raised in Warwickshire will be spent in Warwickshire. This enables people to see where their money goes and more importantly they can see what a difference their support can make."
