| Severely disabled children at a Shropshire special school which opened in January are benefiting hugely from its new facilities. Since the Bridge School moved from Stirchley, Telford to the town's Hadley Learning Community, it's pupils, who have profound and complex disabilities, have made use of new sensory rooms. The much-needed donation for the equipment came from the Shropshire region of Spoon.
Una Van-Den Berg, headteacher of the 152-place school said "The children really love the school and some of the more able kids, at the top end, have been able to tell us what they love about it. It is fantastic, state-of-the-art equipment. It uses a lot of lights and music but it is much more than that. It is currently the best in England for kids with very severe, complex learning disabilities." Miss Van-Den Berg said the equipment has encouraged children to respond and learning to recognise the reactions to what they do. Items include lights on the roof of a swimming pool building which are operated by a remote control that can be used from the pool below.
Glyn Dobbs, from the Shropshire Regional Committee, said they were delighted to support such a good cause. Shropshire Spoon was only founded two years ago and the Bridge School is the first organisation to benefit from its fundraising and was amazed by the new equipment.
