Carrickfergus, Co. Antrim

Carrick RFC held their annual International 7’s Competition from 4-6 May and approached Ulster Spoon to be the nominated charity. Willie John McBride launched the event which had a strong mixture of senior teams from throughout the U.K., including a Ladies Competition and an Under 20’s.  To help raise funds, the club decided to add 10p to each drink sold over the entire competition. A great tournament was had by everyone and at the finals Spoon was presented with a cheque for £1000.

Belfast City Marathon

On the 7th of May, Michael Boy, a Spoon member from Armagh ran the Belfast City Marathon in his Spoon running gear. He was sponsored for over £2500 and came in at 3hours 50 minutes and 8 seconds, which was a great time for his first marathon. Michael just wanted to do something for Ulster Spoon after knowing of the 2 projects they were involved in within the Armagh region. He has now entered the arduous Marathon de Sables where he will win 150 miles in 50 days across the Sahara desert in 2008.
