| Rachael Hayne works in an office situated above on of the estate agencies run by Frosts, a large regional multi-sited operation in the Thames Valley. Frosts were introduced to Chilterns by Gordon Brown of Middlesex, who also host Frost agencies, and have signed up to support Spoon in both regions. Rachael saw the publicity about what Spoon did for children and decided to donate the income that she raised by running in the London marathon to the Chilterns region, where she lives.
You too could be a Wooden Spoon hero – this is how Rachel Hayne describes the journey from application approval to the moment when she crossed the finishing line: “When I think back to November and the realisation that I had been offered a place in the London Marathon, it's really satisfying to see how far I have come. From the early days of a quick jog before breakfast to the later stages of just getting back in time for lunch, running in the rain, the dark and the snow, remembering the amount of times that people said "are you mad?", right to the final minutes, the thousands of people cheering me on and offering their support right up to the last few strides. I will never, ever forget the feeling of relief and sheer exhaustion as I crossed the line, but those were swiftly pushed aside by the pride, elation and delirious happiness...all proven by my grin! My medal now takes pride of place in the house and I never tire of telling people about the experience, and encouraging them to do it too! I'm glad that I could help Wooden Spoon whilst achieving a life long goal of mine.”
