Taunton RUFC and the Somerset WS Committe did a splendid job in hosting the SpoonAAs match against a Somerset County XV. Peter Kennedy the SpoonAAs match manager assembled a blend of youth and experience for this inaugural fixture in the SW of England. The SpoonAAs played with a very stong wind in the first half and applied the 'no kicking' rule which meant they had to work hard to defend and clear their own tryline.
The score changed hands throught the first half with a 13-13 half time scoreline. In the second half Somerset went ahead with a single try, but a try in the final minutes by the SpoonAAs tied the score which was a fair result. The referee looked at his watch and decided there was a minute left, Somerset restarted and the SpoonAAs collecting the ball drove up the field with superb retention and handling, finding themselves a clear run into the tryline without a Somerset defender in site. Game, set and match. SpoonAAs knotched up another win, final score 24-17.
