Who are the SpoonAAs?

Wooden Spoon has teamed up with the famous Anti-Assassins Rugby Club (A-As) to further promote our charitable work and support rugby at grassroots level.

The Anti Assassins Rugby Union Football Club was founded in 1950 and over the last half century has had some huge names in rugby run out as representatives. The A-As’ membership includes over 100 internationals and three Past Presidents of the RFU.  Bill Beaumont, the RFU IRB Representative, and former Lions Manager and Captain, is also a member. John Spencer, the Chairman of Club England is the A-As’ President. As a result of the new association, this formidable membership will create a national and international community embracing rugby people in many different countries.

In future, the SpoonAAs rugby team will continue to play a mixture of traditional fixtures against the Old Boy teams from Sedbergh, Kirkham, Giggleswick, Stonyhurst and Rossall.  Special matches against clubs throughout England are arranged to celebrate Anniversaries and Openings etc.  In addition, matches against Cambridge University, the Royal Navy, Richmond and Taunton are on the fixture list.  The SpoonAAs also play in Sevens and Tens tournaments both at home and abroad.  Dubai, Madrid and Trinidad have been recently visited.  A bi-annual overseas tour is also to be arranged. The A-As have previously visited South Africa, Australia, USA, Canada and East Africa.
